Underseth, Vidar

vidar_underseth

Vidar Underseth's primary instrument is the hardingfele (Hardanger fiddle), the Norwegian folk fiddle with sympathetic strings. He teaches traditional fiddle at the Ålesund School for Music and Culture, and also works as a part-time folk musician for the county of Sogn og Fjordane in the central western coastal area. The majority of his time is spent teaching folk fiddle to children and teenagers. He also teaches folk dancing.

Vidar has been a participant in fiddling competitions since 1982, and in dance since 1987. He is an A-class competitor in the springar dance from Solund, the couple-halling dance and in solo halling, as well as in ordinary violin. He won the King's Trophy in dance at the Landskappleik, the Norwegian national competition, in 1989. Vidar performs together with a variety of partners in music and dance.
