Together with the other jurors Kirsten Braten Berg, Øyvind Sandum, Kai Somby and Ingunn Bjørgo the jury chairman Carl Petter Opsahl listened through almost 60 albums, and jointly with the jury arrived at the 16 nominated discs, which are divided into the categories of documentation, solo, traditional and open class.

Among the nominees for this year's Norwegian Folk Music Award you will find both debutants as well as established artists. On the list we also find this year's winner of the A-class in fiddle at the annual national competition "Landskappleiken", Per Anders Buen Garnås to be nominated for the album "Psalms, rain and solbøn" together with sister Ingvill Marit Buen Garnås. The winner of the A-class in vocal Unni Boksasp, is nominated for her album "Keramello". Valkyrien Allstars, who was named This year's folk musicians 2008 is also nominated for their release "To måner" ("Two Moons").

The Norwegian Folk Music Award will take place Saturday 11th of September during the annual festival Folkelarm, which this year is held on the brand new folk music venue Riksscenen in Oslo. In addition to the four album prices, the price "This year's folk musician" will also be given to a worthy winner. This award will be announced during the opening of Riksscenen Thursday 9th of September, presented by Minister of Culture Anniken Huitfeldt.
