Riksscenen:
Norway's new venue for Folk Music
Situated at Grünerløkka in Oslo, Riksscenen has held a few unofficial concerts this year, but the official opening of this grand new venue is Septemer 9th, at the opening of the festival Folkelarm.
RIKSSCENEN - The Norwegian Hub for Traditional Music and Dance gives Norway an impressive new national venue for presenting all kinds of folk music and folk dance, including Norwegian, Sami and different music and dance from around the world. RIKSSCENEN has moved into a new, customised venue in Schous Kulturbryggeri this winter, and officail opening will be September 9th 2010. Until then, Riksscenen organizes concerts and performances in Prøvescenen, amongst others a series of concerts each Thursday - Folk på Torsdag - in cooperation with OsloFOLK, and cooperate with various players throughout the country.
The new venue is tailored to intimate acoustic concerts, fully produced stage shows, and modern dance productions, as well as social events on dance floors that are suited traditional dances. The main arena will have a capacity of 300 in an amphitheatre, or a large dance floor of around 350 square metres. The cellar will hold a small club accommodating 40-50 people, as well as a room used for rehearsals and seminars. All of the rooms will be connected to a central recording studio.
In Schous Kulturbryggeri in the Grünerløkka area of Oslo, the Norwegian Hub for Traditional Music and Dance is placed in close proximity to the Centre for Popular Music. The new complex also includes the Øvingshotellet – a rehearsal centre including 50 rehearsal- and preproduction rooms, and a new venue for the Oslo School of Fine Arts. RIKSSCENEN will thus be a part of the new, eclectic music community and the creative crossroads of Schous Kulturbryggeri.
