Jeg løfter mine øyne mot fjellene

jeglofter

Reverence for the Creator and the Creation is a fundamental motif of Norway’s religious folk songs. Legends connected with fiddle tunes and folk songs from various genres also bear witness to the effect that the Christian faith and religious upheavals had on people’s identities and on local forms of expression. In the programme “Jeg løfter mine øyne mot fjellene” (“I lift my gaze to the mountains”), the performers give their audiences insight into a little-known world of legends and music connected with religion in general, the history of religion and the religious beliefs of the common people. The performers are Eivind Blikstad (narrative), Ingvill Marit Buen Garnås (kveding – traditional singing), Per Anders Buen Garnås (Hardanger fiddle) and Knut Arne Urdalen Snøås (organ). Performances: Skien Methodist Church, Tinn Austbygd Church, Hjartdal Church
