sharipov_kvadrat

When sufi poet Mavlana jalal-ad-Din Muhammad Rumi died in 1273, representatives from all known regions came to salute him. Over 800 years after his birth, he is one of the world’s most read poets. Oslo International Rumi Festival is an interdisciplinary and multicultural meeting point for discussion, experience and exchange in the spirit of Rumi.
After the Rumi anniversary in 2007, the sufi poet has been celebrated all over the world.
Oslo International Rumi Festival is an interdisciplinary and multicultural meeting point for discussion, experience and exchange in the spirit of Rumi. This year’s participants come from Tajikistan, Iran, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

This year's festival opening will be a true meeting between the East and the North. This May singer Kritin Groven Holmboe, saxophonist Rolf Erik Nystrøm and the great master Dolatmand did great success in Tajikistan with a concert where Norwegian and Persian traditional music found each other in a captivating interaction. We are very happy to be able to show the best numbers here in Oslo, together with a little taste of the other great artists who will perform at Rumifestivalen. There will be classical Persian music, reciation of Rumi's poetry in both Persian and Norwegian, Sama-dancing from Tajikistan and electronic music by DJ Mashdi in collaboration with Persian song. A festival opening in the juncture between East and North - between the traditional and the contemporary.
