Fjøgl

Fjogl1

In a delightful folk music cabaret combining high heels with high C`s, audiences are entertained by three women, all of whom are regarded as top-ranking Norwegian folk music performers.
The word fjøgl is defined in the dictionary as meaning glitter, finery and foolery. Sigrid Moldestad, Unni Løvlid and Liv Merete Kroken thought that name was appropriate, and since they started the group in 1999 they have been drawing ever-greater crowds to their concerts featuring music and short, staged narratives. Our feet are firmly planted in our own Nordfjord tradition, but since we are so secure in our background we can take liberties with it to a certain extent. That helps us to reach a broader audience.

They have done so by presenting the cabaret Two Fiddles and One Diva, among others, which premiered at the Førde Folk Music Festival in 2001. The programme was directed by Tore Nysæther, and toured throughout Norway during the autumn of 2001.

The group also competes at local folk music gatherings and contests. The three women have studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Ole Bull Academy, which vouches for their high level of musicianship. The members of Fjøgl tell stories through the music they play and the brief narratives they present, using both humour and gravity. The group is currently working on a sequel to Two Fiddles and One Diva that will premiere in the autumn of 2002.
