Festival Sounds of the North in Gdansk
In 2010 Sounds of the North is dedicated to Norway. During the whole week in the middle of summer Gdańsk will be a meeting place with Norwegian culture and musical tradition. Because of the great care for saving and creative interpretation of their tradition, Norwegians can be proud of many original folk bands and well educated musicians.

Open-air and club concerts during the Festival will introduce Norwegian folk scene to polish audience. We will continue last edition’s idea of workshops that will end up with the Dance Night. This year workshops will be broadened with musical and vocal parts. We are planning projections of documentaries and ethnographic films connected with subject of Scandinavian folk culture. Moreover, there will be a conference about folk music education in Poland and Scandinavia. Engaging in Chopin year celebration we will present folk interpretations of music polish genial composer by Sarakina, Kwadrofonik and Janusz Prusinowski Trio.
Among many great artists who are invited to take part in the Festival, it is worth to mention a concert-performance Syngende i et utvida Norden/ Songs of the extended North, with a special participation of a great star of folk music - Agnes Buen Garnås. This concert during 30th Festival “Sounds of the North” will be an international premiere of this project.
This year’s special event – SeaBridge – has been prepared in cooperation with our norwegian Partners: Førde Folk Music Festival and Norwegian Traditional Dance and Music Agency. SeaBridge is the orginal connection of traditional and unique elements belonging to musical culture of both countries. We have invited well known polish group Kroke and norwegian trio Tindra, who will perform at one scene trying to build musical bridge over the Baltic Sea.
