Several bands with roots in folk and world music have been selected for by:Larm 2010. As a lead-up folkmusic.no will make a portrait of each group in the following days.

Eplemøya songlag is a vocal trio and comes to by:Larm as the winners in the talent competition Debut 09. Live Ulvik, Wenche Losnegård and Anja Eline Skybakmoen met each other through their studies at Norway’s Music College, where Liv studied folk singing whilst Wenche and Anja studied jazz vocals. They started to sing together in 2006 and explore the possibilities lying in the fusion between jazz vocal and kveding (a traditional Norwegian folk singing style). The repertoire consists of their own compositions and traditional material which they arrange in their own way. This vocal trio steer clear of fanciful warbling, but are rather impactful and energetic. A mixture of humour and excitement, experimental improvisation and the art of storytelling. The sound is raw at times, at others atmospheric and obtuse.
