Brokke, Sigurd
Jew’s harp player from Hylestad in the municipality of Valla, born in 1971.
Sigurd Brokke plays the Jew’s harp as it has been played in Setesdal for a long time, but has also developed the traditional tunes in keeping with his personal taste and style. Brokke is the nephew of Hallvard T. Bjørgum and grandson of Torleiv Bjørgum, two of the most influential fiddlers in Setesdal in modern times. He won the Norwegian championship for Jew’s harp at the National Contest for Traditional Music in 2003 and 2004, and has performed at a number of concerts and festivals. He collaborates with Hardanger fiddler Daniel Sandén-Warg, and together they have released the recording Rammeslag (2007).
